The Path to Totality....a new visual treat from Canada
Filmer/edited Dan Watson has been making skate videos for a long time and doing what filmers were meant to do....shine a light on their local scene and bring recognition to their friends and skaters who might otherwise go unnoticed by the outside world. And the best part is, Dan does it with style and makes the video far more of an experience than just watching skaters do tricks.
For some reason, the Canadian skate scene has long been greatly ignored by the US industry. With obvious exceptions of course, and it's easy to forget sometimes that this massive skate scene is just sitting there right above the US border. With weird accents and insane ledge skills.
Dan just released his latest work and, personally, it's my favorite of his so far. Filmed entirely on HI-8, it brings me back to an era where videos felt a lot more fun and less serious & stunt-based. The crew in "The Path to Totality" absolutely rips but they apply their skills in a haphazard "just out for a cruise" manner that makes it all feel like a day out with your friends. Yet, the skating is all amazing and super pleasing on the eyes. And Dan's filmmaking also shines as a main character throughout, in a mesmerizing array of imagery that almost feels like a weird 1980's meditation tape of some sort. We loved this video so we're urging you to enjoy it was well. Thanks Dan for giving us a glimpse into a much under-appreciated scene and doing it in such an entertaining way!
